Arthur McKinley Jackson

Arthur McKinley (A.M.) Jackson, age 87 of Belfast, Va., passed away Wed., Dec. 3, 2008 at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his family and friends. Born at Daw Road in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Paris and Frances Whited Jackson. He was a retired home builder having built numerous homes in the Tazewell and Russell County areas. After his retirement, Arthur became a passionate farmer. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He attended Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Jackson; one daughter, Jean Fields; one grandson, Michael Franklin Steffey; twin great grandsons, William Gregory Taylor and Jonathan Scott Taylor; two brothers, Rufus Jackson and Joe Jackson; and four sisters, Mary Ann Sargent, Hattie Shelton, Ethel Gillespie and Lucy Jackson. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Taylor and husband, Harvey, and Linda Patrick and husband, Tom, all of Belfast; one brother, Earnest Jackson and wife, Christine, of Belfast; two sisters, Martha Jackson and Pearl Steele, both of Cedar Bluff; five grandchildren, Scott Taylor and wife, Angela, Angie McNulty and husband, Bruce, Shawn Steffey and wife, Kelly, Kevin Steffey and Kristin Steffey; one step granddaughter, Jessica Duty; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Lauren Taylor, Caroline Taylor, Alex Taylor, Lindsey McNulty, Rachel McNulty, Brady McNulty, Meghan Steffey and Luke Steffey; one step great-granddaughter, Julieanna Duty. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sat., Dec. 6, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Paul Hite and Rev. Larry Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers were Kevin Steffey, Henry McFarlane, Joey Jackson, Andy Engerman, Kenneth Mutter, James Perkins, Bill Vencill and Gailen Cox. Honorary pallbearers were R.J. Lester, Harold West and Dr. E.E. Moore. The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Dec. 5, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
