Doris Atwell Obituary

Doris Evelyn Cannon Atwell, 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at her home. She was born in Virginia to the late Clyde and Francis Cannon. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Marion Cannon, Eugene Cannon and Ed Cannon, and her two sisters, Thelma Griffits and Nancy Funk. She was retired from Southwestern Virginia State Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Walter William Atwell; one son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Brenda Atwell of Georgia; three grandchildren, Greg, Gary and Grant Atwell; one brother, Robert Cannon; one sister, Barbara Burton; several nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose with the Rev J.R. Gilman and the Rev. H.L. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.bradleysfh.com Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
