Rex Howard Herald

Rex Howard Herald, age 52 of Tazewell, Va., passed away at his home Sun., Dec. 28, 2008, with his family at his side. Born May 16, 1956 in Tazewell, Va., he was a son of the late Howard Smith Herald and Della Virginia Hall Herald. He was employed by Appalachian Coal Company in Springville, Va., as a computer engineer. Mr. Herald was a simple man who was loved by his sons and family, and he loved his dogs. The end of his life was made more comfortable because of the care and attention he received from the nurses of Legacy Hospice. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include his two sons, Eric Brian Herald and Christopher Even Herald, both of Tazewell, Va.; two sisters, Beth Harman and her husband, Greg, and Katie Hicks and her husband, Matthew, all of Tazewell, Va.; one niece, Elizabeth Hicks and one nephew, Tyler Harman. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wed., Dec. 31, 2008 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with the Rev. Rick Herald officiating. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. Pallbearers were Eric Herald, Chris Herald, Greg Harman, Matt Hicks, Gary Herald, and Mark Sargent. Employees of Appalachian Coal Company served as honorary pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service Wed., Dec. 31, 2008.
