Mildred P. Hackler

Mildred Doris "Penny" Pennington Hackler, 74, of Wytheville died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009. Funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sonny Ayers officiating. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was born March 19, 1934, in Smyth County, daughter of the late Arthur Franklin and Rebecca Byrd Pennington. She attended New Covenant Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Etta Mae Wynn, Nancy Ellen Simmons and Rosa Viola Taylor; and five brothers, Winford Ralph Pennington, John Edward Pennington, William Virgil Pennington, Charles Orville Pennington and Arthur Jackson Pennington. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Glen Hackler of the home; son, Allen Glen Hackler; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Timothy Lowe; five grandchildren, Adam Timothy Lowe, Brenna Mackenzie Lowe, Jacob Allen Hackler, Molly Allison Hackler and Katie Olivia Hackler; a brother, Douglas Randolph Pennington; and several nieces and nephews. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
