Ira Jay Meade Jr.

Mr. Ira Jay Meade, Jr. "JR", age 54 of Raven, Va., passed away Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 in a Richlands, Va., hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 5, 1954 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ira Jay and Helen Arbutus Compton Meade. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner having 27 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Lettie Meade and Maude Compton; father-in-law, Linkous Horn; brother-in-law, Charles T. Davidson; and great-nephew, Brady Levi Compton. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Marie Horn Meade of the home; one son, Mark Anthony Meade of the home; one daughter, Brandy Meade Null and husband, Ryan, of Paintlick, Va.; four grandchildren, Kaneshia Meade, Kaileigh Meade, Coltin Null and Riley Null; four sisters, Mrs. Robert (Shelia) Thomas of Raven, Va., Mrs. Cecil (Gwen) Childress of Richlands, Va.; Mrs. Randall (Bobbie) Richardson of Raven, Va., and Mrs. Scott (Lisa) Worley of Floyd, Va.; one brother, Darrell Meade and wife, Rhonda, of Pounding Mill, Va.; mother-in-law, Betty Horn of Raven, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tues., Jan. 20, in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Relatives and friends served as pallbearers. Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
