Martie Thelma Norris

Martie Thelma Norris, age 86 of North Tazewell, Va., went to be with the Lord Tues., Jan. 13, 2009 in Grace Health Care of Abingdon, Va., after a long battle with cancer. Born Aug. 30, 1922 at Liberty, Va., she was a daughter of the late John Preston Angles and Ida Blanche Angles. She was a member of the Dial Rock Church of God in Tazewell, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denny William Norris; five brothers, Robert Angles, Sam Angles, Melvin Angles, George Angles, and Roy Lee Angles; one sister, Myrtle Godsey; daughter-in-law, Teresa Penland Norris and special friend, Peggy Price. Her days were made easier and she was comforted during this long illness by the exceptional care of the staff of Grace Health Care. Survivors include three sons, Perry Norris of Tazewell, Va., Danny "Red" Norris and wife, Delores, of Lexington, N.C., and Ray Norris and wife, Bridget, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; one daughter, Naomi Norris Seamon and husband, Mark, of Bristol, Va.; eight grandchildren, Christopher Norris, Shane Norris, David Norris, Kenny Norris, Kathy Koen, MacKenzie Norris, Kaleb Norris and Karley Norris; five great grandchildren, Emily Norris, Gage Norris, Ezra Koen, Morgan Koen, and Tessa Koen; one sister, Hazel Hill Folden of Bluefield, W.Va., one brother, Perry Angles of Salem, Va.; special granddogs, Molly, Gracie, and Bugsy; also surviving, her special niece, Louise Bailey, who helped take care of her during her illness, her best friend, Martha Blevins; and her special hair dresser, Judy Forbes. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with the Rev. Earl Hill officiating. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. Pallbearers were Kenny Norris, David Norris, Jason Koen, Charlie Johnson, Bob Penland, and Randy Casey. The family received friends at the funeral home after 12:00 noon on Sat., Jan. 17, 2009.
