Jack R. Patrick

Jack R. Patrick, age 83, of Paintlick, Va., passed away Wed., Jan. 14, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Mohegan, W.Va., and was the son of the late Samuel Riley and Juliett Blanchett Patrick. Jack was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran and had proudly served his country. Jack was a retired coal miner from VP# 1 for Island Creek Coal Corporation and was a member of the UMWA. He had served in the American Honor Guard, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Zona June Olsen. Those who survive him are: his loving wife of 51 years, Irene Hunt Patrick of Paintlick, Va.; his daughter, Lorie Ann Patrick of Doran, Va.; his special son of the heart, Craig Smith and wife, Allene, of Wardell, Va.; four sisters, Virginia Maynard, Gail Shelton, Julie Wiles, Clara Jean Stringer; one brother, Marcus Lee Patrick; his grandchildren, Bethany and Dalton Smith. Funeral services for Jack R. Patrick were conducted Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers were: Dude Palmer, Billy Harrison, Bill Stilwell, Robert Stiltner, Joe Short, Burton Vandyke, Dickey Vandyke, Darrell Hess and Randall Hess. Honorary pallbearers were: CVS Pharmacy Staff, Dr. McVey, Rocky Horton, Dr. T. Patel, Dr. Weinacker, Dr. Oduntaw, Dr. Titha, Total Home Health and Hospice and Helping Hands Home Health. Members of the American Veterans Honor Guard Association conducted military graveside rites. Friends called after 6:00 p.m. Fri. evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
