Lynwood Floyd McGlothlin

Lynwood Floyd McGlothlin, age 77 of Richlands, Va., passed away Mon., Jan. 19, 2009, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Tazewell County, Va., and was the son of the late Loranze and Laura Reedy McGlothlin. Lynwood was a graduate of the 1949 class of Richlands High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and was stationed in Korea. He was a retired Tipple Mechanic for Island Creek VP#3 and a member of the United Mine Workers Association. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist church and a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clara F. McGlothlin; a son, Tim McGlothlin; two brothers, Leonard and Harold McGlothlin; one sister, Inez Norman. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: his daughters: Susan Lynn McGlothlin of Oakwood, Va., Beth Johnson and husband, Terry, of Richlands, Va.; his sons: Denny McGlothlin and wife, Janet, of Richlands, Va., Barry McGlothlin and wife, Rebecca, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; one sister, Ruth Shamblin of Abingdon, Va.; sister-in-law, Betty Robbins Hollingsworth of Clinton, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Carrie Denny of Clinton, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Stephanie McGlothlin, Amber Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Kaylee McGlothlin, Benjamin McGlothlin; and one great-grandchild, Logan McGlothlin. Funeral services for Lynwood Elswick were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 22, 2009, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Jim Denton officiating. Interment followed at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Va. Friends and family served as pallbearers. Military graveside rights were conducted by the Casey Shortt VFW Post # 9640.
