John W. "Pete" Harris

John W. "Pete" Harris, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap. He was a retired employee of U.S. Gypsum Co. of 40 years. He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Harris, parents, Deck and Maggie Harris, one sister, Mabel Sheets, and one brother; Herman Harris. Survivors include two sons, Kenny Harris of Saltville, Gary Harris and wife, Frances, of Marion; grandson, Christopher Harris and wife, Anastasia, of Marion; step-granddaughter, Cary Sexton of Marion; great-granddaughter, Hannah Harris; sister, Christine Robinson and husband, Randal, of Meadowview; seven brothers, Ben Harris and wife, Mary Sue, of Saltville, Gordon Harris and wife, Janet, of Saltville, Curtis Harris and wife, Dorothy, of Hickory, N.C., Donald Harris and wife, Jancis, of Wheatcraft, Ky., Dan Harris and wife, Mary, of Kentucky, Paul Harris and wife, Dorothy, of Antioch, Ill., Graham Harris and wife, Norman, of Clay, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Angie, Scott and Cassey Whitehead. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Frye officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Elizabeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.
