Doris Smith Obituary

Doris Lee "D.L." Smith, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in West Virginia on March 26, 1937 to the late Fred Douglas Smith and Goldie Meadows Smith Lilly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Smith. He had been employed at the Merillat Corporation and had attended Falling Water Baptist Church and Pugh Mountain Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Armstrong and husband, Dean, Barbara Ricker and husband, Terry, and Crystal Peake; two sons, Tony Smith and Margaret Cornett and Merlin Smith and wife, Janie; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Lilly and wife, Drema, Allen Lilly and wife, Julie, and Leslie Lilly and wife, Betty; four sisters Oma McKinney and husband, Roy, Serena Parks, Bertha Williamson and Mary Waldron. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Boyette officiating. Interment will follow in the Attoway Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chris Armstrong, Allen Armstrong, Craig Harrington, Dean Testerman, Kenneth Testerman and Derrick Smith. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion is in charge of arrangements.
