Rachel Amelia McConnell

Rachel Amelia Booher McConnell, 84, a well-known resident of the Green Spring community of Washington County, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Grace HealthCare of Abingdon. She was born in Grayson County and was the daughter of the late Albert Thomas and Rachel Hale Booher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. McConnell, two sisters, Julia T. Nelson and Barbara A. Ault and a special Great Grandchild, Tiffany Hooper. She attended Radford College and was very active in Education in this area and served on the state level of PTA. She was a past director for People Incorporated. She had a great love for cooking and working in the garden and she truly loved her family. She is survived by her seven children, Marilyn Conner and husband, James, of Westland, Mich., Fred A. McConnell Jr. and wife, Norma, of Dillwyn, Va., Mary R. Hall and husband, Terry, of Clermont, Fla., Margaret A. Ludlow and husband, Terry, of Fredericksburg, Va., David S. McConnell and wife, Pam, of Hixon, Tenn., Albert T. McConnell of Chilhowie and Robert G. McConnell and wife, Ann, of Abingdon; 19 special grandchildren;17 special great-grandchildren; and two special great–great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Rachel Amelia Booher McConnell were conducted Feb.17 at the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Martin officiating.
