Robert Clay Lee, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at his home in Sugar Grove. He was born in Smyth County to the late Fred Jefferson Lee and Cleo Cox Lee and was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence F. Lee and Ellis L. Lee, and a sister, Frances Lee Boyden. He was retired from construction and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Survivors include two brothers, Carl Lee and wife, Frances, of Sugar Grove, James T. Lee and wife, Elaine, of Sugar Grove; four sisters, Nancy L. Purefoy and husband, James, of Marion, Shirley Gaskins of Marion, Emily Collins of Plainfield, N.J., Lorraine L. Jackson and husband, Delmas, of Sugar Grove; sister-in-law, Barbara Lee, Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and cousins; special friend and caregiver, Shirley West; and special friends, Aretta Garrett, Raymond Martin, Don Edwards, Rosebud, Howard and Marie Turley, Billy Perkins and Ray Perkins. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Leslie Dean officiating. Interment will follow in Slemp Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
