Phyllis Ann McGhee

Phyllis Ann McGhee, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at her home in Chilhowie. She was born in Smyth County to the late William and Valley Parker Gillespie and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wayne McGhee, her brothers and sisters, Olivene Haulsee and husband, Bill, Harold "Jake" Gillespie and Mildred Gray Jones and husband, Junior. She was retired from the Southwestern State Hospital with over 20 years of service and attended the First Church of God in Chilhowie. She was a kind Christian lady who was always available for family and friends. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include one son, Darrell McGhee of Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki McGhee Herndon and husband, John, of Rosedale; very special granddaughter, Gabriel Herndon; sister, Lois Williams of Marion; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at First Church of God in Chilhowie with Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery. The family received friends Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Chilhowie First Church of God.
