Clarence Dean Ring

Clarence Dean Ring, 77, of Wytheville died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009. Funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sonny Ayers officiating. A graveside service was held Friday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at West End Cemetery. He was born March 19, 1931, in Wythe County, son of the late Henry Thomas and Josephine Safewright Ring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended the Wytheville Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Grant Ring, Thomas Ring and Bill Ring; and five sisters, Leona Tate, Bessie Walls, Maude Sayers, Lugea Bishop and Betty Fisher. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Ring of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence Ricky and Sherry Ring of Wytheville, Eddie and Sue Gunter of Max Meadows; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Farris of Austinville; a brother, Ray Ring of Rural Retreat; a sister, Gladys Cannoy of Max Meadows; four grandchildren, Wendie Hilton, Charles Fariss, Dr. Amber Gunter and Aaron Gunter; a great-grandson, Joshua Hilton; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tommy and Helen Kilgore. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
