Charis Jean Rector

Charis Jean Rector, 71, died on Feb. 25, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.J. and Grace Rector, a sister, Mary R. Ward, and a brother, Joe R. Rector. She was a dedicated mother and daughter. She was a kind, generous, and loving soul. She spent most of her life helping others. She was a long-term employee of the Smyth Farm Bureau in Chilhowie from 1972 until 1993. She then went on to pursue a successful career in nursing at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion. Survivors include by one son, Johnny Rector of Dandridge, Tenn.; her former daughter-in-law, Beth Rector of Dandridge, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews including nieces, Christy Rector Maher of San Francisco, Calif., Pamela Ward Anderson of Concord, N.C., Tonia Ward Norris of Star Tannery; and nephew, Monte Ward of Glade Springs; sister-in-law, Barbara Rector of Marion; several cousins including Betty Sims and husband, Jack, of Marion and Ann St. Onge of Orlando, Fla.; one aunt, Dorothy Roberson of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a dear friend and long-term caregiver, Brenda Matney of Jefferson City, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Seaver Brown Chapel. Burial will follow in the Round Hill Cemetery.
