Ellen Mabel Hager

Ellen Mabel Wright Hager, 74, of Bland, the Hollybook community, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. Funeral service was held Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny Shortridge and Ted Anders officiating. Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery at Hollybrook. She was born May 21, 1934, in Bluefield, W.Va., daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Hallie Lawrence Wright. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Wright; two brothers, Charles Russell Wright and Otis Wright; twin son and daughter, Barry Ray Hager and Sharon Kay Hager; and a grandson, Zachary Watson Burton. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Richard M. Hager; a daughter, Retta Burton, and friend, Howard Jones of Bland; two brothers, Homer Lee "Ding" Wright and William T. "Ted" Wright, both of Bland; three sisters, Kate Dillow and Agnes Strock, both of Bland, and her twin sister, Julia Hays of Ceres; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate was in charge of the arrangements.
