Gay S. Sprinkle, 98, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Francis Marion Manor. She was born September 4, 1910 in Rural Retreat to the late Adam A. and Ollie Harmon Slagle. She proudly held the honor of being the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church, Marion. Through her life she was active in many community organizations, including Marion Rebekah Lodge, Marion Business and Professional Woman's Club, Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include four great nieces, Sherry Mohr of Austin, Texas, Susan Loch of Heidelberg, Miss., Julie Garrett of Manassas, and Jane Wright of Centreville; great-great-nephews, Kyle and Evan Garrett, Ryan, Brant and Adam Lock; great-great nieces, Jennifer Covey and Megan Garrett; and great-great-great nieces, Cassey and Kirstyn Lock and Jordan Covey. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 4, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating. The family received friends Thursday, June 4, from 6 p.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Private burial was conducted Friday at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rural Retreat. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 206 Briarwood Lane, Rural Retreat, Virginia 24368. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
