Audrey Umberger Simmerman

Audrey Umberger Simmerman, 95, of Wytheville died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Houseman officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat. She was a retired nurse's aide and was the oldest living member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Boyd and Mary Lee Sharpe Umberger; husband, Kelly Jackson Simmerman Sr.; grandson, Dr. Barry Lynn Simmerman; two sons-in-law, Clarence A. Huff and Thomas R. Suthers; five sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Melita S. Suthers of Wytheville and Shirley S. Huff of Summeton, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly J. Jr. and Hilda Copenhaver Simmerman of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise U. and Cecil Irvin of Wytheville, Jettie U. and Hugh Porter of Max Meadows, Norma U. and Henry Wills of Wytheville; two grandchildren, Dr. Steven C. Simmerman of Memphis, Tenn., and Lori Ann Huff of Summerton, S.C.; four sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
