George Aker Obituary

George Roy Aker, 78, of Wytheville, the Piney community, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Norman Wilhoit and Joe Carrico officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born June 7, 1931, in Wythe County, son of the late John Daniel Fredrick and Lessie Fisher Aker. He attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was a Wythe County dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John D. Aker Jr. and Andy Aker; two sisters, Iris Via and Ina Cox; and a grandson, Joseph Aker. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Aker of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Cleve and Angela Aker of Wytheville; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Lynn and Roger Farris of Wytheville; four grandchildren and spouses, Christy and Darby Smith, Jessica and Jason Perdue, Evan Aker and Erika Aker; two sisters, Mona Cross of Baltimore, Md., and Eunice Jakubowski of Virginia Beach; a brother, Herbert Alexander Aker of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to the church where the family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. (service time). Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of the arrangements.

Ellen, Clevie and Lynn,
I was so sorry to hear of George Roy's passing.
He was such a good man and a good friend and help to mama when daddy was working.
May God hold you in the comfort of his hands and get you through this.
