Derick Brian Carlson, 47, of Suffolk, formerly of Wythe County, died Saturday, July 4, 2009. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 4 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be later. He is survived by his wife, Donna Mayo Carlson of Suffolk; two children, Ryan Carlson of Suffolk and Mandi Carlson of Wytheville; father, Robert Carlson of Ohio; mother, Patricia Finley of Wytheville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Allison and Larry Jennings of Charleston, W.Va., Tammy and Keith Dunagan of Wytheville; nieces and nephews, Nicole, Brian, Tabatha and Kelly; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kole, Kali, Dimi, Kylee and Asti; and special friends, Charlie and Marie Shupe of the Graham's Forge community of Wythe County. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 8, from 3 to 4 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

I am sorry to hear about Derrick's passing. I remember him well from MSHS. I remember some of the girls in our class saying to each other "oh, he is so cute!" and I remember him from band too. I am sorry for your loss, Tammy, and please know I am praying for you and your family at this time.
