Dorothy "Dottie" Louise Hamby Johnson, 75, died Monday, July 6, 2009. She was born on May 20, 1934 in Wythe County to the late Robert Claude and Geneva Bell Newman Hamby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harry Alfred Johnson, two brothers, Robert Claude Jr. (R.C.) and David Wayne Hamby. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Hamby Horton and husband, David, Sorrento, Fla., brothers, Donald Hamby, Orlando, Fla., George "Bobby" Hamby, Orlando, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Betty Buchanan, Goldsboro, N.C., Jeanette Smith and husband, Joe, Marion, Dot Johnson, Bristol, Va., Bessie Johnson, Marion; five brothers-in-law, Paul Johnson and wife, Martha, Lake Mary, Fla., Herbert "Turk" Johnson and wife, Lorraine 'Penny, Groseclose, Joe Johnson and wife, Rose, Marion, Jimmy Johnson and friend, Linda, Marion, Ervin Johnson and wife, Darlene, Marion; and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Jason McNeese officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Middlefork Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home or any time at the home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Middle Fork Cemetery, P.O. Box 613, Chilhowie, VA 24319. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
