Dwayne "Sonny" Perkins

Dwayne "Sonny" Perkins, 58, died on Friday, July 10, 2009 at his home in Marion. He was born in Smyth County on Jan. 14, 1951 to Ray Perkins and the late Polly Goins Perkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Ray "Jabo" Perkins, and a sister, Linda "Bunkie" Perkins. He was retired from Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute and was an avid bowler. Survivors include a very special friend and companion, Karol Shepard of Marion; three sons, Jonathan Perkins and wife, Tara, of Virginia Beach, Daniel Perkins and wife, Katie, of Marion, and Justin Perkins of Marion; one daughter, Katie N. Perkins of Marion; his father, Ray Perkins, of Marion; his grandchildren, Taryn Perkins, Haiden Perkins, and Joseph Gamble; special friends, Lucy Dalton and Gary Mutter; special nieces and nephews, Michelle Cox, William Perkins, Tina Perkins, and Jason Goff; and many other special friends, family, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Mutter and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. The family received friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Virginia; 600 W. Ridge Rd. Wytheville, VA 24382.
