George H. Surber, 58, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Surber, and a brother, Harry Surber. Survivors include his wife, Linda Surber; daughter, Karen Surber Combs; father, Stanley Surber; brothers and sisters, Lois Barrett, Mary Frye, Jean Murrel, Sue Brooks, Betty Woodward, Roby Surber, Billie Robinson, Martha Mitchell, John Surber, James Surber, Cathy Huff, Jeffrey Surber, Deby Trueblood, Walter Surber, and Curtis Surber; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. John Surber officiating. The family received friends after the service at the Saltville Rescue Squad from 4 until 6 p.m. or at the home of Stanley Surber. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to help with funeral expenses. Online condolences may be made at hendersonfuneralhome.com. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Linda and Karen,

I did not know of George's passing until Mom told me yesterday. I am sorry to hear about your loss. I remember George laughing at me and Karen when we were kids roaming the streets of Henrytown. May God Bless You!

linda an karen im am so sorry to hear about george passing. he was always talking fondly of you.when i would take him to winston salem an roanoke. he was such a pleasant person to talk with. he loved you very much. he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. may god bless you both.
