Charles R. Smith Charles Richard "Dick" Smith, 65, of Wytheville died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home following a long illness. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hall and Harold Coleman officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Gardens with American Legion Post 9 conducting graveside military rites. He was a member of First Christian Church in Wytheville. He was a retired employee of AMSCO Products where he worked for 34 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served a tour in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division in 1966/67. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Goble Smith of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Smith of Wytheville; same as a daughter, Deneena McCathran of Wytheville; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Wanda Smith of Archdale, N.C.; a sister, Sue Pugh of Thomasville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
