Ann B. Sheffey Ann Elizabeth Blair Sheffey, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary, N.C. Funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Tunnell officiating. Interment was held Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery. She was born March 11, 1922, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Susan Porter Blair and grew up in Wythe County. She was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hugh Pierce Sheffey Jr.; a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Sheffey; three brothers, Harry Blair, Howard Blair and Herman Blair; and three sisters, Inez Patterson, Lillian Mabe and Mary Sue Blair. She was a gentle and giving person who took wonderful care of everyone she knew. While she will be sorely missed, loved ones will keep with them her kind, thoughtful, selfless spirit. Survivors include a son, Jerry Lee Sheffey of Wytheville; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and William Crockett of Raleigh, N.C.; special niece, Margaret Ann Blair of Fairfax; four grandchildren, McKenna Blair Crockett, William Hugh Crockett, Joshua Allen Sheffey and Steven Pierce Sheffey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nadene and George Dickens of Max Meadows, Darylene and Harold Mitchell of Galax; two sisters-in-law, Mary Talbert and Wanda Coe, both of Wytheville; a brother-in-law, Thomas Sheffey and his wife, Velma, of Max Meadows; and several nieces and nephews. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
