Thomas J. Gibson Thomas James Gibson, 70, of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., formerly of Wythe County, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at his home. A graveside service was held Sunday, Sept. 6, at noon at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery with President Hal Cragun officiating. He was born May 24, 1939, in Max Meadows, the oldest of three sons of the late John and Louise Gibson. He grew up in Rural Retreat and after his school years spent most of his life in Minneapolis, Minn. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Rouse Gibson; two sons, Dirk Gibson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Brian Gibson of Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Dianne Gibson of Morristown, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Putok Gibson of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Hunter Gibson, Danielle Gibson and Nicole Gibson, all of Brainerd, Minn.; and a nephew, Mike Gibson of Fayetteville, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to help a needy person. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat was in charge of the arrangements.
