Billie Sanders Rector Sr.

Rector Billie Sanders Rector Sr., 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at his home. He was born in Clinchburg to the late Floyd Rector and Nannie Fuller Rector and was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Fowler, and a son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Campbell. He had worked at Burlington Mills and Laurel Springs Dairy and attended the Marion Church of the Nazarene. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Katherine Scott Rector; nine children, Sandra Campbell of Bristol, Tenn., Deborah Smith and husband, Douglas, of Chilhowie, Billie S. Rector Jr. and wife, Rita, of Marion, Linda Hudson and husband, Dave, of Grimesland, N.C., Kathy Cowan of Orlando, Fla., Michael Rector of Chilhowie, Jeffrey Rector and wife, Sue, of Marion, Elizabeth "Libby" Pierce and husband, Jonathan, of Chilhowie, and Angela "Angie" Gilbert and husband, Ronnie, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mamie Scott of Marion; and brother-in-law, George Fowler of Wake Forest, N.C. Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor Michael Hopkins and Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating. The family received friends Thursday from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Westwood Memorial Gardens in Chilhowie with military honors rendered by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
