Patricia Stiles Obituary

YORK Patricia J. (Skelding) Stiles, 67, passed peacefully away Thurs day, March 22, 2007, at her residence in Spring Garden Township, after a seven year battle with cancer. She was the wife of William H. Stiles, to whom she was married 46 years. She was born June 3, 1939, in Scranton, the daughter of the late James Skelding and Louisa Jane (Atherton) Skelding, and late paternal aunt and uncle, William Cracknell and Thelma (Skelding) Cracknell of Glenburn. Patricia graduated from Clarks Summit Abington High School in 1957, and York Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1960. She was a member of the Starlight Chapter No. 508 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron. She was a passionate volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years serving in different states for numerous natural disasters. Pat was an avid crafter of many creations that she gave to her family and grandchildren and sold at her "Market Creations" stand in Central Market, York, and a previous stand in Eastern Market. She was also a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church on W. Market St., York. She was co-owner of Stiles Performance, Inc., producers and distributors of motor sport magnetos. Pat served as the supportive wife and mom of four children for her husband, Bill, during his career in drag racing. Many years of treasured memories and best of friends were made through the sport of racing. In addition to her loving and supportive husband, Bill, Pat will be dearly missed by her four loving children and nine grandchildren, William H. Stiles, II and wife, Tina (Landis) Stiles, their children Zachary, Kaitlin, and Tyler of Seven Valleys; Richard A. Stiles and wife, Della (Snyder) Stiles, their children, Melissa and Meghan of York; Susan L. (Stiles) Weaver and husband, Robert Weaver, their children Patricia, Jennifer, Louisa, and Catherine of Seven Valleys; Robert B. Stiles of Windsor and his companion, Kelly M. Mummert of Spring Grove; all of whom she cherished. She is also survived by one brother, James N. Skelding and niece, Amanda Joy Bowen, both of Bloomingdale, N.J. She will also be sadly missed by her beloved pet dogs, Sparky and Hemi. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday March 26, 2007, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St. York, with the Rev. Diane G. Wenthe officiating. Family and friends are invited to viewings on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service will immediately follow the funeral service in Mount Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Help Fund, 25 Monument Road, Suite 194, York, PA 17403. www.etzweiler.com

Bill
Glenn and I think of you and your family everyday... We miss Pat and we love you always!! We're here for you!

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
and share with you its beauty
on the days you're feeling blue.
If I could build a mountain
you could call your very own;
A place to find serenity,
a place to be alone.
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea,
but all these things I'm finding
are impossible for me.
I cannot build a mountain
or catch a rainbow fair,
but let me be what I know best,
a friend who's always there.

Pat,had so many good times both here in York and the Cresson Mts. You seemed to relax and enjoy our great air up here. I remember getting up in the morning and finding you out on the patio doing something for market. But my best and last memory is our trip to Fridays and "the great ketchup fiasco". I truly am still laughing at that one! That was the last time you, Donna,Emily and myself were together, "the four Valeries"!
Love & will miss you,
Mary Ann Regan

Bill; Don't forget that she is with Stace now. Stace left his mark behind that he "was here" now Pat is there! Now they are talking about the old times that you all enjoyed so much, and she is there to comfort him and he to comfort her. Both of them lived too short of lives. My dad is also there to talk about the old racing days with her. It's hard to loose the comfort and companionship of a dedicated lifetime companion. You and I know this oh too well. God's speed.

Dear Bill. Pat had allways made me feel as part of your family.I am so amazed at her support to you and your racing career. I will never forget the story about when she was with you going to New York and the Cuda (Betsy she called it) came off the trailer and was so worried that Betsy was going to be hurt. Pat some times acted as if it was one of your own children. That reminds me of how my own Mother would have acted. She allways reminded me how much she disliked the Duster as compared to Betsy. I am very proud that my family was able to make a small differance in your family's happiness by letting Betsy stay with you. I wouldn't trade it or the memories with Pat for anything. I miss Pat dearly. Please have strength to hang in there Bill, I know that she is pulling for you as she allways had, and expects you to, as she allways had expected.God's speed to all of you.

Dearest Pat ~ All I can say is THANK YOU! Thank you for being a camping friend for many years, I‘ll never forget all the fun we‘ve had at Dover. Thank you for accepting me as part of your family with wide open arms. Thank you for all the tips, hints & stories you have shared with me about Bobby over the past 2 ½ years; I only wish we had time for more. Thank you for all the memories, every time I see a NASCAR Race I'll think of you, every time we have the Cuda out I'll think of you, and when the Duster is done I'll think of you. Finally, because of you Bobby is who he is today and for that I thank you; he is my one true love.

I cannot express how lucky I am to have been able to call this corageous woman my grandmother. I am thankful for all the lessons she has taught me, from doing puzzles and learning to read to the lessons of becoming an adult. I am glad to have just gained the smallest amount of wisdom she had. I am grateful to have had such an heroic grandmother.
She is now shining down on us from heaven and is with us in our hearts everyday.

With all my love,

To say " i am so sorry at her passing" seems so inadequate, yet these are the words we say to those who mourn. And yet, how can you sum up the total of a person's life and sucesses with such a small phrase- Wife, mother, community member; to each she gave a sense of purpose, carrying on to the last. Just 5 months ago she was with us, enjoying a Sunday outing and now she is gone to a place with no pain; no fear. For family and friends a deep loss; for Pat, the time to lay aside the burden of suffering and be at peace, leaving love and caring for those on earth.
