I did not have the opportunity to know John for long, but in the time I did share with him, I found him to be very kind, caring and helpful. He has made an impact on me and he will be missed. May his family be comforted and protected in his absence.

Dear Barb and family,
John and I were best friends since high school. I was John's best man in your West Point wedding. It came as a great shock to hear of John's passing. John sent me an e-mail this past Monday as he always did. We were planning to visit you guys on the 15 of May, 2009 just before my daughter's graduation from Gettysburg. I want to send my sincere condolences to you and the entire Hachenberg family. Your husband and dad was a great man. I am privileged to say I was his best friend from high school.

So sorry for your loss. I have always had a special place for John in my heart. I knew him from the time he was 11 or 12.
He was a great guy. He was the glue that held the family together. So sorry I could not come down last night. I would have liked to.

There are few words that seem adequate at a time like this. We are so, so sorry for your loss. John will be remembered as such a kind, pleasant man. Gone but never forgotten...he will be missed...but his memory will live on through those he knew and loved.

I worked with John for many years at BMY/United Defense. I always found him to be a pleasure to be around and eager to help me when I needed it. Overall, a great guy who will be missed.

I was so shocked when I recieved the call about John. Even though I haven't seen him for quite some time I have lots of wonderful childhood memories. John, David, & Billy spent many hours in our home when we were young and he was a awesome cousin. He was always known as my dads honorary nephew because dad (Bob) was always so proud of him. I am deeply saddened to hear of John's DEATH. I am remiss in not contacting you for so many years. John was the hardest working soldier I ever knew. Our days in the 94th live in the most sacred part of my heart. I know John is at peace. He loved his family more than anything.
You are a brave woman. You were always by his side and I admire and respect you for that.

I had the privilege and pleasure working with John for many years. He was a valued colleague and friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I sincerely enjoyed his company professionally and personally and he spoke often of the pride he felt for his family. It is sometimes impossible to understand why events happen as they do, but I hope you and your family can find some consolation in this time of deep sorrow in the good life John lived and the positive influence he had on others. I worked with John for many years. He was a very compassionate, caring individual. I know how much he loved his family--it was evident his expression and voice when he spoke of you. He was always very supportive of the people who worked for him and was there when we needed him. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
