Patrick Nagle Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

NAGLE, Patrick PATRICK HAMMETT NAGLE Patrick Hammett Nagle of Dunwoody, 48, lost his courageous year-long battle with colon cancer on Sunday, September 21, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Constance; his children Christopher, 16, and Alexandra, 13; his mother, Patricia; brother, Chip and wife Marjorie; nephews Charlie and Ryan, all of Atlanta; as well as his mother-in-law, Sophia Bridoux, of Pittsburgh. He is preceded in death by his father Charles and brother Sam. He is survived also by much of Constance's extended family, which he too considered to be his family. Patrick was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, grew up in Atlanta and was a 1978 graduate of Marist High School. He met Constance on a blind date arranged by his brother Chip in 1985, and they were married in 1986 in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta. Patrick held dual degrees in accounting and computer science from Ga State University. He pursued his CPA first, and after many years as a corporate controller made a career change and earned his MCSE certification and founded Dunwoody Network Systems, where he found his true calling. He was a "techie" at heart and loved his work and his clients, who he also considered to be his friends. He was bright and engaging and had a broad array of talents and interests. Patrick was an Eagle Scout, past Board member of Dynamo Swim Club, and enthusiastic volunteer at Dynamo, Murphey Candler Little League, Dunwoody Seniors Baseball, Vermack Swim and Tennis, and Marist School. Prior to his illness he was an avid proponent of the new city of Dunwoody and worked on some of the early planning groups. He enjoyed a wide variety of music and movies and had extensive collections of both. He had an affinity for the water, and loved the ocean, and spent many weekends water skiing and boating at Lake Lanier. He had an uncanny ability to retain "useless facts" and was everybody's favorite pick for Trivial Pursuit. His children previously attended Holy Innocents' Episcopal School and are currently students at Marist; Patrick felt blessed to be part of the Marist family again, particularly during this last year. He was proud of his children and their accomplishments-from football to swimming, volleyball to basketball, orchestra to chorus, he loved to watch his children engage in their passions, and was always visible in the stands, bleachers or auditorium. He was a personable, outgoing, social person who loved to be around others, and was touched and overwhelmed by the ongoing support of friends and family during his illness. He was a fine man-an attentive husband, proud father, loving son, spirited brother and good friend, and will be sorely missed by many who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, with a vigil service at 8 pm at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 25 at 12 noon at All Saints Catholic Church, 2443 Mount Vernon Road, Dunwoody, with interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Marist School to the Patrick Nagle Memorial Scholarship Fund. H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE.

Constance,

It's been a very long time but I worked with you at Peat Marwick. The last time I saw you and Patrick was at Dr. Wolfson's office when you were pregnant with your first baby. I was stunned to read about Patrick in the paper today. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts. I'm so very sorry for your loss!

Constance
As a Marist '78 classmate of PJs, I am deeply saddened by his passing. We shared a lot of laughs together in the classroom, on the football field, and just hanging out.

Praying for you

September 23, 2008

Counstance, you don't know me and we more than likely will never meet, but I wanted to say I hurt for you as I too lost my husband to colon cancer a year ago. I will pray for you sweetheart, as grief is the most piercing pain ever felt. Remind yourself to breathe and pray and ask God for his mercy as you struggle to make it without your best friend and husband.
