My condolences to the Hill family. I remember my years at Community School with great fondness and especially living in the dorm. I remember fondly all that Mr. Hill did and was to the school and community while I was there. Mr. Hill will be remembered by many.

I went to Community School because I had lived with one of the school's founders while I was in college at Wooster. She told me hundreds of times about wanting to cultivate a "community" spirit among the diverse children in Teheran, Rasht, Hamadan, Tabriz. So around 1926 (I've forgotten the date) the School began in Hamadan. Her daughter, Martha (now 82 and living in Wooster) was sent as a boarding student as a small child.
Moving ahead many years, from 1969-1970 I discovered that Doug perfectly embodied the person who carred Sarah Wright McDowell's intention lo those many years before. She was delighted with my many letters back to Woo telling her about her wonderful school! Doug was a remarkable person, juggling so many difficulties and conflicts...and never seemed flustered or at a loss. He could not possibly have been more helpful or supportive as a "boss" and was indeed a good friend with whom I lost touch so carelessly in recent years! I am delighted he lived to see that so many of his former students are keeping the Community-spirit alive. Indeed, whenever two or more are gathered together....it is Doug who is always mentioned! haha. He and Lois were quite a pair...and I have thousands of great memories to think about!!!

Mr Hill was one of those rare adults who truly knew how to connect with young people. As a boarding student at the Community School for 4 years I was a witness to his fairness, understanding and I always knew that he would be available during tough times since my parents we not able to be around. I have nothing but fond memories of him and the entire Hill family. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Doug Hill embodied the spirit of Community School in Teheran. He was committed to the belief that international education bridged cultural and idealogical chasms. And how right he was - the CHS family reunions are part of his legacy, and we are all richer for having known him.
