Rest in peace Uncle Bill
Bill Fields

Wild Bill Fields won his moniker during his very first season of racing. It was 1965 on the clay figure eight track at Manzanita Speedway. The figure eight track was a dangerous place to be since the track intersected and the drivers were always trying to get through the intersection without crashing and without losing too much time. Wild Bill adopted a winning strategy early on - drive a fast car and never, ever slow down when coming to the figure-eight intersection. Other drivers soon learned that playing chicken with Wild Bill was a fool’s game. The cars would crash and both drivers would lose a lot of ground. Wild Bill’s 1957 Chevy ended the season in tatters but with the championship. When his hobby morphed into late model stock car racing in his 1964 Dodge, his strategy changed, but the winning continued.
My Dad was a winner in many way. You made me proud Dad. I’m really going to miss you.
