John Cavin Obituary

Cavin, John H.
passed away peacefully on March 19, 2011 at the age of 79. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a courageous and selfless man who always put others first. He was an inspiration to all that were fortunate to have known him. John is survived by the love of his life, Annie, his wife of nearly 60 years, daughter Julie and sons, John & wife Debbie, Tom & wife Rosie, David and Scott & wife Saralyn, twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren with another one due in April. John is also survived by his older brother, Charles. John was born in Seminole Oklahoma, September 19, 1931. His father was a school teacher and his mother a stay at home mother who raised six children during the Depression. John attended junior college in Miami, OK then went on to Tulsa University where he received his Bachelors of Arts and Law Degrees. During college John was drafted and spent three years in the United States Army serving his country. While attending law school, John also worked nights at Douglas Aircraft Company supporting his young family. A member of both the Oklahoma and California Bar Associations, John and his young family moved to California in 1958 when Douglas Aircraft transferred him to their Santa Monica facility and then to Long Beach in 1968, serving the newly merged McDonnell Douglas Company as Deputy Chief Council. He later served as Vice President and Pacific Rim Counsel of McDonnell Douglas China and ended his forty year career at McDonnell Douglas Chief European Counsel, in London, England. A devoted Christian, John also served the Presbyterian Church for many years as a Deacon, Elder and advisor. John and Annie traveled around the world together and were able to do and see more than most people dream of. John was a hero to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of family, unconditional love, character and perseverance will be passed down from generation to generation.
