Brooks Odiorne Obituary

Odiorne, Brooks Calvin
66, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2011. Brooks was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Flora, son Michael (wife Kelly), daughter Michelle Ficht (husband Adam), four grandchildren (Jack, Reese, Kyle and Kendall), and a sister Nancy Williams. He was a retired B-747 Captain with Evergreen International Airlines, enjoyed spending time with his family, and always sought to make others laugh. He was a wonderful person that we lost too soon. Each of us will lose a part of ourselves but all of our lives have been enriched by knowing Brooks. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 27th at 3:00 PM at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. in Scottsdale.

I knew Brooks when we worked parttime in Denver while I was in the Air Force. We also lived together in an apartment in Aurora Co for several months before he left to (I believe) Florida for flight school. RIP my friend ....

It's been over 20 years since my last trip with Brooks and 10 years since I last saw him in Scottsdale while going thru recurrent training with the San Bernardino County Aviation Division. Brooks was the ideal Captain to fly with. Very humble, never got excited and a superb instructor. In fact, I credit Brooks for preparing me for upgrade on the 747. We had good times on trips together exchanging jokes and him telling me old war stories from his early years flying a Beech 18 in all kinds of weather. I've been out of the cockpit now since 2013 but I will always remember the competence, expertise and support he gave to his crew. Miss you old pal!

Brooks, A fine pilot & never without your bag of tricks! Always an adventure with fun capers as memories. You touched many a flyer with your big heart. Farewell for now....until we meet again.

Mike Peretti said it perfectly – Brooks will NEVER be replaced. I remember Brooks coming aboard as a new Electra first officer – and the rest is history... Evergreen would never be the same. Although we remember Brooks with humor, he was also a serious and talented airman. He and I were involved in some rather dicey ops back in the 80’s. After surviving one of those absolutely fascinating adventures, we’d glance at each other, raise our eyebrows, and not say a word. Brooks took things seriously when necessary. Of course, the next day he was back in his default mode of consummate prankster. It was an honor to know him and I’ll have fond memories of escapades with Brooks... forever. Rest in peace my friend.

Hey Brooks....I had no idea you had a hat and jacket. It was always an absolute pleasure flying with you!!! Your sense of humor and full bag of practical jokes kept us all in stitches. I bet 100 bucks you've already tried sticking a lit firecracker under God's bathroom door. I know several of us who experienced that pleasure. Take care my friend. You will never be replaced.

We were sadden to hear of Brook's passing. My wife and I met Brooks and Flo on a cruise a few years ago and have been in touch over the years by emails and letters ever since! Being that I work for Alaska Air, our conversations were enjoyable as we got to see that Brooks enjoyed flying and also enjoyed his cruisin'...We will miss his smile and happy lifestyle..but remember, those we love just don't fly away, they still take-off and land every day, unseen, unheard, but always very near, still loved, still missed and very dear. Our thoughts and prayers are to Flo and the Odiorne family at this time....May he rest in peace with the Lord.......

Thank you to everyone who took the time to remember my dad. As wonderful as he was to fly with he was amazing to grow up with. He has still managed to make me smile as I go through his stuff and find the clown noses and fuzzy dice. He was an amazing "papa" to his grandkids and will be greatly missed. I was one of the few that got to share the cockpit and a company apartment with this great man. My entire family and I will never forget all that he taught me about flying and enjoying all around you. You could not spend time with Brooks and not end up having a great Laugh. I have no doubt that the airspace in heaven is full of smiles now. I have never met Flo and family but feel that I know all very well and offer my heart felt condolences. One of the things that I loved the most about Brooks was his love for his family. I can only hope to fly with Brooks again when it is my time.
