Dorothy Nelan Obituary

Nelan, Dorothy June
Dorothy June Nelan went to be with her loving husband of 69 years, George "Barney" Nelan on May 4, 2011. Grandma was met at the gates of paradise by all the family that preceded her. Dorothy June was born in Peoria Heights, IL on June 17, 1923. There she fell in love and married George on January 17, 1942, and moved to Arizona with their growing family in 1949. After showering her children with love, Dorothy went to work at Scottsdale High in the cafeteria for 20 years while simultaneously spoiling her grandchildren. Grandma loved to fish, provide a loving home and travel with Papa. Dorothy also enjoyed celebrating life with her numerous friends and neighbors for over 50 years. Grandma's visitation will be held from 5 to 8pm on Monday, May 9th at Carr Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Rd., Tempe. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am at Carr Tenney Mortuary on Tuesday, May 10th with the graveside services following at the City of Mesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Dorothy's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

My heart goes out to you at this time. I know how much you loved your mom. She always made me feel welcome and I enjoyed knowing her through the years. I know how much you will miss her because I miss my mom so much!! May God be with you and your brother and comfort you at this time. Wish I could be there to give you a hug.

As the years fly by we lose contact but the heart connections, even if stretched, are never really broken. Lord willing, times like these draw us together again physically, but if not possible, then always in our spirits and minds.
Dear family, I remember Dorothy's spirit and good humor. She (and George) were always glad to see us and made us feel welcome in their home.
Even now I recall the laughter and pleasure shared when she was able to be part of "That Group" both on our Thursday evening Bible studies or at other of our get togethers.
How I miss those times and part of me grieves that there will be no more chances for them.
But more importantly, I will be happy for her passing to a joyful, restful, safe place where there is nothing of sorrow nor fear.
Dorothy - until we meet again, know you are loved and remembered.
