Vivian Simms Obituary

Simms, Vivian J.
Vivian Janet Simms, born in Brilliant, Ohio to James A. Reed and Margaret Faye Reed January 8, 1921, went home to be with her Lord and Savior May 22, 2011. Shortly after marriage to Joseph Jordan Simms, they moved to Phoenix in 1950 for health reasons.Joseph and Vivian have four children: Joseph J. Simms, Jr.; Janet F. Meadows; Philip R. Simms; and Sherril K. Simms-Lerma. Today she has 6 grand children; 9 great grand children, and one on the way. Her greatest strength was her faith in Jesus, on Whom she relied as the unseen wellspring of her spiritual strength. She regularly encouraged others in need. She loved children and never stopped praying for those she loved and the down-trodden. Because of her faith, Vivian courageously accepted hardship and always made the most of any adverse situation. While Vivian is now dancing and praising the Lord free of arthritis--with fluid and healthy legs and her little hands unfolded wide open--our family's hearts are heavy. God sent Vivian to us for over 90 years as His gift. She showed us by her example how to minister to and bless countless lives daily. Funeral services will take place at the Life Center of the Beatitudes Campus, 1616 West Glendale Ave., Phoenix, AZ Thursday 5/26/11 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship prior to an interment procession/service. Visitation Wed. 3-5PM at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. www. greenacresmortuary.net

To all my cousins,

I just got the word over the holiday weekend of your mothers death. My heart goes out to you all. Aunt Vivian was a wonderful lady. I know she will be up in heaven routing for those Sun Devils.

GOD truly blessed us with Vivacious Viv in our lives. She truly could turn a lemon into lemondade. With all her struggles with arthritis, I never once heard her complain of pain. She loved her hats and brought such joy and happiness to her friends and family. Thank you Viv for letting me be part of your life. I will miss you dearly.

Vivian was a dear friend from Morningside Church. When she called me, she always said, "This is Vivacious Viv."
I will always remember her beautiful hats, her love for the Lord and her gift of making every child feel special. My love and prayers are with her family.
