PITTSFIELD -- Frances G. Sarmuk, 92, of 66 Hawthorne Ave. died Thursday at home.
Born in Housatonic on Sept. 24, 1915, daughter of Joseph and Mary Bubrzyski Gromelski, she was a 1933 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge.
Mrs. Sarmuk was employed by the Pittsfield Police Department as a crossing guard at the former Pomeroy School for 25 years.
She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
She and her husband, William J. Sarmuk, were married Sept. 7, 1940, at All Saints' Church in Housatonic. Mr. Sarmuk died Feb. 26, 1990.
She leaves two sons, William Sarmuk of Canton, Conn., and James P. Sarmuk of Pittsfield, with whom she resided; two daughters, Mary Ann Bauchiero of Southington, Conn., and Jean F. Kushi of Pittsfield; a sister, Helen Oggiani of Housatonic; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Frances G. Sarmuk, who died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, will be Monday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church celebrated by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Sarmuk may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She also leaves her sons-in-law, David Bauchiero and Kevin B. Kushi; daughter-in-law, Sandra (William); nine grandchildren, David A. Bauchiero Jr., Kim Cerra and Joseph Bauchiero, and Missy Duane, Kevin Kushi Jr., and Sandra Morrison, and Paula Sanden, Pamela Briggs and Patricia Canny; and 16 grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Kay on Oct. 26, 2006, and Sally Deutsch on Oct. 4, 2007.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
