Kenneth Berkland Obituary

Of Westwood, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Caritas Norwood Hospital following a brief illness. Formerly of Norwood, he was the son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Eppich) Berkland and the brother of the late Irving (Ted) Berkland, John Berkland and Dorothy (Berkland) Boulter. He was raised and educated in Norwood, graduating from Norwood High School in 1945. He enlisted in the United States Navy during his senior year of high school and served in the Pacific. Discharged in 1945, he continued his education, graduating from Northeastern University and earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Harvard Business School. Mr. Berkland retired as Vice President and Treasurer of the Wyman-Gordon Company of Worcester. In his retirement he enjoyed spending his summers at his Popponesset Beach home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne (Coughlin) Berkland; his children; Kenneth Berkland and his wife, Lisa, of Walpole; his daughter, Kathleen O'Kane and her husband, Brian, of Pocasset; Kristine Boyles and her husband, Eugene, of Plympton. He also leaves his grandchildren; Harrison and Tyler Berkland, Cori, Brendan, Alison and Dan O'Kare and Miranda and Sam Boyles. Funeral services will be held from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St, Rt. 1-A, NORWOOD, Sat., April 5, at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Margaret-Mary Church, Westwood at 12:00 o'clock Noon. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.
