Sally Linscott Dion

Age 75, Grace, faith and dignity defined her. Her sense of style was classic and beautiful. She was loving, kind, honest, and sincere. Those that knew her adored her. Her love of family and friends was unwavering and her generosity amazing. Everyone loved Sally! Sally was an artist and writer. She loved antiques and decorating. Her real estate knowledge and love of old homes was a passion. Her love for her children and grandchildren was absolutely wonderful. Sally was born in Gardiner, Maine on March 11, 1933. She was the daughter of Mellen and Constance Linscott. She had two sisters Nancy and Irene. Sally was educated at Sanborn Seminary (Salutatorian) in Kingston, NH and received her B.A. in Education and Math with a minor in Art from Tufts University (Phi Beta Kappa) She studied at the Museum School at the MFA throughout High School and College. Sally was an extremely talented student and athlete, competing in intercollegiate field hockey, basketball and softball. She married her first husband, Robert E. Webster of East Kingston in 1953. They started their family in Westborough, Ma and eventually moved to Andover, Ma. She helped her husband start his first business, Channel Building Company. Sally worked on the design for commercial and industrial buildings and the restoration of historic buildings. Her work interest also included teaching Math, English, Gym and Health. She was a substitute for a variety of schools and a full time teacher in Math at the Pike School. She wrote and illustrated a children's story book on Halloween. Sally and Robert lived and raised their five children in several communities. Westborough, Andover, North Andover, West Newbury and Newburyport, Ma. They spent many summers at a special place called Hedding in Epping, New Hampshire. Hedding had beautiful grounds, a fresh spring and swimming pond. Religious services for Baptist, Congregational and Methodist Churches were rotated each Sunday in the Auditorium. Sally sent her five children to the Hedding Day Camp. It was a fun loving place for all. Sally was an active member in every community she lived in. She worked in various organizations including the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, YMCA Civic Center Board of Directors, North Andover Open Space Preservation, and the KG Associates Community Art Gallery. With her background and love for art she gave radio interviews on the "Arts". She opened Yankee City Art Gallery in Newburyport, Ma. Sally moved to Greenwich, Connecticut to work at The Daycroft School. She eventually moved back to Andover, Ma. where she worked for the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Ma. in the Publishing Society as a Financial Analyst. It was at this time she married her second husband Joseph, an Architect from Denver, Colorado. The couple moved from Andover to Newburyport where Sally became a Real Estate Broker. They spent time in Wolfeboro, NH and then moved back to North Andover, Ma. As a devoted, life-long member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts, Discovered and Founded by Mary Baker Eddy, Sally supported the Christian Science Church throughout her life by serving as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Board President, First and Second Reader, and Librarian. She was also a member and past Executive Board Chairman of the Thomas E. Hurley Association. She was a devoted church member in Newburyport, Wolfeboro and Andover. She wrote a wonderful article for the Christian Science Monitor titled, "Can Busy Mothers Keep Up Intellectually?" Published by the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker G. Eddy Boston, U.S.A. A joyous, compassionate, and generous person, Sally was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, mother-in-law and friend who dedicated much of her time to the happiness and comfort of others. She touched many hearts in her lifetime and Sally's intelligence, quick wit, and independent spirit left lasting impressions on those fortunate to know her. She loved life, pursuing a diverse spectrum of hobbies including reading, bicycling, swimming, writing, painting, clay sculpture, photography, rowing, antique furniture, art, drama and music. Sally was a devoted Christian Scientist. She proved to be the reflection of God. Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love: All in All, Good. Many troubles were overcome, prejudice overcome, a convincing testimony. She was healed physically and spiritually. She is Free! In addition to her husband Joseph Gerard, Sally leaves her five children Lynne and Rick Trombly of North Andover, Ma. Steven and RobinWebster of Wolfeboro, N.H., Jane Armstrong and fianc William Wenzel of Merrimack, N.H., Judith and Eugene Reilly of North Andover, Ma. and Ann and William Difrancesco of Byfield, Ma. She leaves ten grand children, Keith and Kyle Wentworth, Brooke and Victoria Webster, Scott Armstrong, Sarah and Shannon Reilly, Michael, Katherine and Peter Difrancesco. She leaves Four Step Children, Devereaux Dion, Peter Dion, Deirdre Alexander, Julie Dion -Soberg and their children. She leaves two sisters, Nancy Mackenzie and husband Douglas of Manchester, N.H. and Irene Linscott of Amesbury, Ma. One niece Cathy Lyons and one nephew Scott Mackenzie. We will be celebrating her life with family and friends at the Elliot, Woodworth, Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Greene Street, Newburyport, Ma. A memorial service will be held at 4pm with extended visiting hours from 5 to7 pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The First Church of Christ Scientist 278 North Main Street, Andover, MA 01810, The First Church of Christ Scientist Newburyport, Ma. 01950, The First Church of Christ Scientist, 1 North Main Street, Wolfeboro, Ma. 03894.
