What I admire about Dot: I admire her ability to learn throughout her life...to learn to use a computer in her early 80's.
I admire her independence and working at a time when it wasn't fashionable.

I admire her math and stock market abilities. I admire her mechanical abilities when fixing things. Like when we sat behind the hot water tank for two hours in the cottage to try to fix the pilot light. Or how she would rig up something to make an old broom work again.

I admire the panorama of photos from her childhood throughout her life that allowed me to see a more complete picture of her life. Like, the photos of her as a young, energetic, attractive woman with an abundance of friends.

I admire her faith in God and her ability to enjoy a conversation and a good meal, to enjoy all of life.

My mother gave me a spirit of independence
A spirit that helped me to last whole camp seasons away from home
A spirit that helped me live thousands of miles away
A spirit to give up on lost causes and find new ones
A spirit to follow my own convictions
My mother gave me a sense of trying the new
A sense to not staying within the box
A sense to let go when things aren’t right and try the alternate road
A sense to be whole when everything is falling apart
A sense to admit when wrong and go for the right
My mother gave me an understanding
Understanding that things are not always the way people want them to be
Understanding that you are loved in spite of what you represent
Understanding that not all things are for the best but they help you to survive
Understanding that we see only shadows of reality
What my mother gave me
She gave without hesitation
