To the Family of Chuck,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Chuck, he was a great guy and always challenged me to learn more. Our trivia group misses him terribly and I miss hearing "That is your homework for tonight!" May you find comfort in the fact that him and Mitzi are together again.

Chuck Gerstein is a man that many will miss. Chuck and I began our Town Meeting careers the same night, and we instantly became friends. He was a man of integrity, he was a man of knowledge, he was a man who loved his family.

I have never seen an older person take to the oportunities of the computer and the internet like Chuck did. It was not unusual to get email or chat messages from Chuck at 3:30am asking how to do something or how to find a new site he had heard about. Chuck had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and he clearly saw early on that the computer was the key to open the door to the worlds biggest encyclopedia.

Chuck was a veteran who loudly spoke against war.he would often tell stories about the devastating injuries that he saw first hand when he worked with soldiers who were blinded during battle. He was never afraid to speak his mind politically, regardless of the popularity of his position. This is something that we all can learn from. Chuck was chock full of integrity.

Chuck, we miss you and Mitzi and I feel truly honored to have had the chance to get to know you both so well over the last fifteen years.

My sympathy to the friends and family of Chuck. Hearing about his passing in the same month as Mal Schulze makes me think that we are truly losing a generation of activists who dedicated their personal time for the greater good of the community in which they lived. While Mal and Chuck disagreed on many issues, they could still remain friends. God bless you, Chuck, say 'Hi' to Mal for me.

In the late sixties when I first came to Wellesley as a cab driver at the Wellesley Hills Taxi stand right next to the Fallon's pharmacy, I got to know "Charlie" and whenever he saw me we always had an interesting and enjoyable conversation. A few years later I became a police officer in Wellesley and Charlie was one of the first to congratulate and support me in that endeavor. We never kept in touch after he left the pharmacy, but when I saw his name in today's paper, it brought back those great memories. My sincerest condolences to his family.
