Anna Fennell Obituary

Of Arlington, MA, at 89. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died Thursday, at home with her family by her side. Born in Salerno, Italy, she lived in Orient Heights, East Boston before marrying her husband of 65 years John E. Fennell who passed away in 2006. They met at Fisher Business College, lived in Cambridge and settled in Arlington, living in the same home for 43 years until her passing. She always had a smile, a kind word, a contagious laugh and a lovely way of making others feel great about themselves. She was a wonderfully compassionate listener, inspiring her family to be strong role models for their children and the generations to follow. A wonderful cook, she established the family tradition of countless gatherings that is carried on today by her children. What she enjoyed most was her family and watching them grow. She was warm, kind and inviting to all. Mrs. Fennell is survived by four daughters Joanne Malatesta and Barbara Kelley both of Arlington, MA, Lois Welch of Franklin, MA, Janet Goldszer of Los Angeles, CA, one son Shawn Fennell of Warwick, RI, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister Alice Christopher of East Boston, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 24 Medford St., Arlington, MA 781-648-0220. Visiting hours on Friday, May 30, 4-8 pm at Berglund-Williams, O'Brien Funeral Home, 292 Mass Ave., ARLINGTON, MA, 781-643-6410. Burial St. Paul's Cemetery, Broadway Ave., Arlington, MA. Aunt Ann was a true matriarch, always a strong woman, loving mother, great friend, and generous to a fault. Although I will miss her deeply, will always remember that special smile and laugh.
