"Uncle Tommy" was not my Uncle, by blood relation, but I will always think of him as such. He was my Sister-In-Law, "Kathleen's" Uncle, his, stated verbatim, "Beloved sister, "Nora's" daughter, and may I add, a fine man. The archetype of a gentleman that seems to no longer exist in our current society, which is an immense loss in itself,...
Succinctly, three words come to mind when I ponder the consumate synopsis of this man~ Kindness, Compassion, and a remarkable Intellect.
As a young woman, I was in awe of his gifted intellect, and his fascinating stories he regaled us with, when we all were together for the Holidays.
It is with the utmost certainty that Our Good Lord Shed The First Tear For His child "Tommy", in calling him home, to the place that was prepared for him by his loving family who had gone before him.

One of my earliest memories of Uncle Tommy is the gift my brother Terry and I received one day in the mail – matching Harvard T-shirts. We received many gifts as children, but his gift on that day is the one that still carries meaning for us 30 years later. I can only assume that the gift came with one of his nicely scripted letters about the importance of education. We always knew that Uncle Tommy wanted us to do great things and part of that meant getting a good education. I know his brother and my grandfather Richard shared this dream for us, but Uncle Tommy in my mind will always be remembered above all else for his love of learning and the importance he placed on education. Having very recently taken a job at Harvard I have been thinking a good deal about Uncle Tommy and that gift my brother and I received that day. Thank you Uncle Tommy for having that dream for us and I’ll do my best to pass that dream of yours on to another generation of Synnotts. As I walk the campus in the coming years I’ll think of you and all the time you spent in Cambridge.

My Great Uncle Tommy will be missed. My fondest memories include his visits to my nana's house on Saturdays. I knew when Uncle Tommy was visiting, he was sure to bring lots of goodies from Plourdes bakery! He always wore a sharp suit with a top hat and entertained Karin and I with his magic tricks (quarter behind the ear). His countless letters and drawings meant alot to me. He wrote of the family history and our connection somewhere along the line to royalty. He stressed the importance of education and was very proud of our accomplishments. May he rest in peace.
'May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.'
