Geraldine Fisher Obituary

85, of Brookline, died at home held by her loving family on June 3, 2008. Family was important to her. As a young Marine Corps wife, she accompanied her husband wherever she could in order to make her family. She worked tirelessly to make a home with each move to a new house. She plastered and painted ceilings and walls, stripped and revarnished floors. She refinished and reupholstered furniture-all to make a comfortable home. Even though she worked full-time throughout her life, she managed to care for each of her aging parents at home and to see that her children received excellent educations. She was very much her parents' daughter. Like her father, she was creative and artistic. She loved drawing portraits. Like her mother, she was a keen observer and puzzle-solver. She was a student of preventative health long before it was popular. As an enduring and fierce advocate for justice, she was very involved behind the scenes in her political party. She challenged all that limited people's rights-The rights of tenants, women and the Notch Babies in particular. She had many fondnesses. She liked to jitterbug, swim and lift weights. She loved the sound of the violin, Mozart and the hymn, "In Christ There Is No East or West, In Him No North or South." Fascinated by astrology for its personality descriptions, she often determined the birthdays of people whom she barely knew with astounding accuracy. She loved the Marine Corps, daisies, little animals, gizmos and whimsy, and newborn babies and their new mothers. She leaves a big hole in the world which she occupied for 85 years. She gave all she had to give. She was loved. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 9th, All Saints Church, 1773 Beacon St., Brookline, MA. Andrea- It sounds like your mother was quite a person. She also sounds a lot like you.
