William Robin Obituary

Brockton Police Officer & longtime Brockton Resident. Born in Providence, RI, June 21, 1927, son of the late David, Rachel and Ida Robin. He is survived by his sister Rachel (Robin) Blumenstein and brother Liebert Robin, both current residents of FL, his former wife, Lorraine (Brides) Robin of Middleboro and sister-in-law Sasha (Dolores Brides) Young of FL. He was the beloved father of Rachelle of South Boston, Joette of Norfolk, Brian of NYC, Celeste of Mansfield, grandfather of Macallister Emer Robin Hughes of Norfolk and father-in-law of the late Thomas Hughes. Willy grew up and lived most of his life in Brockton. After leaving Brockton High School, he joined the Navy during World War II to serve his country, and upon returning home, he worked for his father's bottling company as a salesman for Orange Crush and Rob's Root Beer. He retired from the Brockton Police Dept. in 1992 after 35 years of dedicated service as a patrolman and evidence technician. He could always be seen throughout the city working road details. Willy was an avid New England sports fan, loved cars, the sun and beach, Florida, animals and spending time with his family and friends. He had a unique sense of humor and a great laugh which will be missed by many. In his retirement, he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee, laughs and some local gossip. Willy lost his strong battle to colon cancer on May 24, 2008, 27 days before his 81st birthday. A memorial service was held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Canton on May 27th and he was given a final sendoff by the Brockton Police Honor Guard and the Mass. State Police. A celebration of his life was held at his favorite restaurant, The Lafayette House in Foxboro and attended by his closest family and friends. His spirit rests in Sharon Memorial Park and although not a religious man, he was proud of his Jewish heritage. Willy Robin will be sadly missed by those who were touched by his life that ended too soon. He will forever be in our hearts. As Willy always said, "thanks for calling" and we'll never stop.

Dear Dad -- it's going on 4 months since we lost you. But you are always in our thoughts. Joette & Macallister thought they saw you today at a restaurant having breakfast. Last night, the storm was so bad that the cellar door flew open. Again, we thought it was you...there's not a day that goes by that we don't remember you and your sayings and your hopes for all of us. So much to update you about and such sadness that we can't talk to you...your pictures won't let me forget the Dad I loved and miss so much. xoxo, R

Dear Dad -- you're finally at your place of rest. You'd be so happy that we followed through with your wishes. You gave us the strength to do all that you wanted us to. We will continue to live your dreams and do what's right in life -- because you taught us to work hard, stand up for our beliefs and follow through on promises made. We miss you every day and watch for signs that you are still watching over us.

Mr. Robin,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Dad -- it would have been your 81st birthday...you were fighting the fight and dealt with too much pain beyond your strength. I thought that I'd see you again as it was just 6 short days prior. You hugged your grand daughter and I hesitated, thinking I'd see you again. I never got to hug you or say goodbye. Or let you know that you meant the world to me. So much never said, regrettably so...but know that I loved you dearly and will until the day I die. Love, Rachelle
