Albert Feingold Obituary

June 20, 1926-June 16, 2008, was the youngest of 4 boys, children of Gustav and Etta, born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. After attending Loomis Prep School he attended Harvard College and Boston University Medical School, becoming a Psychoanalyst. He served in the Air Force Medical Corp for 4 years. Professionally he was successful, in private practice and later as Chief of Emergency Psychiatric Services at University Medical Center and Boston City Hospital. However, he retired early to enjoy his art, cooking, swimming and a less stressful life. A lifelong passion for learning kept him reading and enjoying languages, particularly Italian. He took the New Republic, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and loved old and corny jokes. He played boogie woogie piano, guitar, banjo and keyboards. Music always filled the house, folk, spirituals, opera. In an odd twist Dr. Feingold liked the escapism of professional wrestling. Art became a second career, which he enjoyed immensely. While not prolific in the sense of turning out many hundreds of items, Dr. Feingold completed nearly 70 unique works of art including drawings, paintings, multi-media collages, and sculptures, in materials such as charcoal, pastels, acrylic plastics, fur, wood, and found items. A long time member of the Cambridge Art Association, a selection of his work was exhibited at the CAA, University Place, and other locations. Dr. Feingold is survived by his son Joel and daughters Judith and Lila, grand daughter Iris, his brother Richard, and his dear friends Cheryl Saunders, Katana (Saunders) and Gianluca Queiroli and their daughter Eliza. A remembrance service is scheduled for 2:30 pm on July 17th at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The family requests no flowers and encourages donations to the Cambridge Art Association or other arts programs, particularly those supporting art education for children.

Albert attended the literature class I teach at the Cambridge Center for close to twenty years!!! He was a valued member of the class. We'll miss him --he was so uniquely Albert!
All of us knew he was in the class because he enjoyed literature, but even more so because he enjoyed the opportunity for conversation with other thoughtful readers. Albert, your spirit is with us!!!
