To the entire Phalen family:
Although it has been many years since I last saw Mr. Phalen, I have always held great admiration and respect for his and Mrs. Phalen's parenting in guiding such a diverse and talented group of children. Stephen has been my best friend for almost thirty years and I am always amazed with the ongoing biographies of all. Uncompromised integrity and decency are rare commodities in this world and it has been a great gift to be a part of your circle.
With much affection,

Jack Abbott

Vera, what a loss, one of the nicest men ever, enormously accomplished but quiet, humble and reserved about all he achieved, his family and not wealth will be his legacy.
