Coleman Cody Obituary

Of Duxbury, formerly of Falmouth and Cataumet, died June 20. He was 85. "Bill" to his friends was born in Boston in 1923 and spent his childhood in Concord, MA and then in Brookline. During WWII, he served as an advanced single engine instructor pilot in the Army Air Corps and later volunteered for duty with the US Ninth Air Force in Europe. He was recalled to active service during the Korean Conflict and assigned to pilot air traffic control duties in Frankfort and Munich. He was separated from the service as a Major in 1953. Mr. Cody graduated from Harvard in 1945. In 1948, he married Barbara Baldwin of Boston and Cataumet. Together they lived in Needham until her death in 1981. In 1984, he married Sarah Meigs Hobbs of North Andover and Quissett. Mr. Cody loved the game of golf and especially enjoyed playing with his wife, Sally, at the Woods Hole Golf Club where he formerly served on the board of governors and as chairman of the membership committee and chairman or the tennis committee. In 1953, Mr. Cody joined the Boston office of Doremus & Company, an international advertising agency headquartered in New York City. He retired from Doremus, now a subsidiary of Omnicom Group, in 1985 as a senior vice president and general manager of the Boston office. He had been a member of the Harvard Club of Boston, the Algonquin Club and the Quissett Yacht Club. He also served as a trustee of the Rivers Country Day School in Weston and on the board of directors of the Village at Duxbury. He leaves his wife, Sally, a daughter, Ann C. Pattison, of Marblehead, two daughters in law, Mary of Cataumet and Susan of Bronxville, NY and seven grandchildren. His two sons, G. Stephen and David S. Cody predeceased him. He also leaves two step-children, Elizabeth H. DiClemente of Andover and Patricia H. Tompkins of New York, two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, 67 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth MA 02540.

Bill was a wonderful man and husband. We were so glad that we were able to see him one more time before his passing. He will be greatly missed in our hearts.
