I was so sad to hear about the passing of Shirley (Daveta) Poleo. One of my first cousin's and the daughter of my dad's only sister Civita (Scurini) Daveta. I know my father Carlo was very proud of his niece Shirley and her brother Dominic. He always talk about them with so much pride. His words still have a very important meaning in them. I can only hope, I have made him as proud of me as he was of her. Shirley gave me a gift I would have for the rest of my life. Do to the death of my farther at an early age of 48. I was only 16 but the knowledge of what she was doing to make him proud of her. Taught me what he would expect of me when I got older. Most people never have the chance of knowing when a person is proud unless told in person. Thank You from the bottom of my heart Shirley for being who you were a great woman, daughter, mother, wife, person. They could be very proud of.
You will be missed and your absents painful, I am sure you would have never left unless called upon. Love Linda

Though I never got to know you as I had wanted. I can still see you through my eyes as a child. I remember Auntie Civita bringing my mom into your sewing room as she stood there proudly displaying all of your art that you were presently designing. I remember following Auntie and my Mom (Rosie) into that sewing room and it was like a magical place. I remember all of the shiny sequins, gems and pearls pinned to the next project & waiting to be turned into something that would leave one breathless. I am 46 and can still remember what that room did to me. I remember always wanting to ease my way into that room without Auntie Civita catching me, (which she usually did). There was a possitive energy that I felt because of the beauty that was created in there. What ever was brought there in bags never came out the same. The beauty that was created in that room was the work of my Cousin Shirley. I will always remember seeing you as a child, I wanted to be close to you. I always saw you in the same light as those gems that were carefully pinned to the satin or lace, that lay waiting to become something memorable in someones life. You created a lot of beauty and brought alot of happiness to people around you. I will never forget you Shirley. I promise that I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Love Your Cousin, Debbie
