Alice I. Read

88, of Londonderry, NH died Wednesday July 2, 2008 in Franklin, NH. Ms. Read was born in Rockport, New Brunswick, Canada on April 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Rufus and Ruth (Mason) Read. Ms. Read had previously lived in Boston and Everett, MA until 12 years ago when she moved to Sandown, NH. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Boston Globe for approximately 35 years before retiring around 1988. Ms. Read was very active in the Fourth Presbyterian Church in South Boston for many years, and also served as the church's organist. Ms. Read is survived by a sister, Doris R. White of Franklin, NH; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis G. Read of Londonderry, NH, and Phyllis E. Read of Peabody, MA; five nephews, David Read of Topsfield, MA, Clinton Read of Franklin, MA, Geofrey Read of Marlboro, MA, Paul Mason of Wilmington, MA, and K. Matthew Read of Southborough, MA; three nieces, Elizabeth Whittum of Newton, MA, Wendy Kleis of Medford, MA and Leslie Read of Boston, MA. She is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews. Ms. Read was pre-deceased by two brothers Carmon Read and Robert Read. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 12th at 10:00am in Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center, MA. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. in Derry is handling the arrangements.
